The word that sums up my hope for the YouthREX project is

My past experiences with youth, youth organizing and community engagement

I have extensive experience in interdisciplinary youth-focused research, and collaborating with grassroots/state institutions in local/international settings. Following my work on identity and conflict with youth in South Africa (Dlamini 2006), and teachers and youth in Canada, I’m currently the Principal Investigator of Engaging Girls, Changing Communities: Examining Girls’ Processes of Civic Engagement & Leadership (EGCC). EGCC utilizes and builds upon youth capacity to take a critical role in examining issues of community engagement and leadership by training them in peer research methods and supporting them to mobilize findings, as well as communicate knowledge generated through project activities.

What excites me the most

This project represents an unparalleled chance to meaningfully participate in the process of positive youth development by offering young people the necessary tools, resources and support to become change agents in their communities. I hope my contribution will facilitate increased youth urban-informed learning, political engagement as well as create more leadership opportunities among youth in Ontario.
