The Blackhurst Cultural Centre is hiring! They are looking for a skilled and knowledgeable candidate to become our next Youth Program Coordinator. The Youth Program, Windows-to-Opportunity, is a community-based mentorship program designed to engage BIPOC youth, ages 15 to 24, in the arts, culture and technology.

 

DESCRIPTION

Windows-to-Opportunity is a community-based mentorship program that is designed to engage BIPOC youth, ages 15 to 24, in the arts, culture and technology. As a part of the Centre’s executive team, the Program Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director and liaises with instructors, mentors, partners, and students to implement all program activities in accordance with the Ministry’s guidelines. The Coordinator will perform duties that include, but are not limited, to reporting, coordination, designing events, budgeting, registering participants, researching and administration. Blackhurst Cultural Centre (BCC) – The People’s Residence is a non-profit and destination that provides opportunities to experience the rich culture and history of Canadians of African and Caribbean ancestry.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support implementation of educational and recreational activities according to grant guidelines
  • Utilize management techniques and strategies in working with mentors, guest speakers and community partners to successfully execute weekly workshops and excursions
  • Assist in planning and promoting the Windows-to-Opportunity program within schools, organizations and the community
  • Identify and connect with community partners in order to enhance program delivery
  • Supervise workshops, events and activities and promote safety, respect, collaboration and engagement among participants
  • Perform periodic reporting and evaluation on the progress of the program, the engagement level, areas of improvement and the demographics of the participants
  • Manage communication between the organization, mentors, students, the community and stakeholders
  • Assist in marketing the Windows-to-Opportunity program by creating e-flyers, e-mailers and coordinate the program registration process
  • Purchase supplies and coordinate meal plans based on the Ministry’s nutritional guidelines, and submit receipts to the Accounting Team
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Executive Director and attend department meetings as required
  • Coordinate special events and student projects for the Windows-to-Opportunity Program
  • Complete invoicing related the program and work with the Accounting Team
  • Assist Executive Director in the budgeting process for the program in addition to all administrative and scheduling duties as required
  • Assist in sourcing funding opportunities and grant writing duties as required
  • Must adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols as outlined by the City of Toronto and the Ministry of Health and Safety

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant education and/or work experience as a program coordinator or a fast-paced, non-profit organization environment
  • Post-secondary education an asset
  • Program planning and facilitation experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be efficient and detail-oriented
  • Possess strong computer, organizational and administrative skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workplace and video conferencing platforms
  • Knowledge of budgeting, bookkeeping and reporting
  • Minimum 3 years’ executive administrative assistance
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Be creative and innovative in approach to planning, development and execution of duties and program activities
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills, technical aptitude, friendliness and positive attitude
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and adhere to all vaccination protocols
