Centring Indigenous and Black young people in Peel

Hearts + Minds

Do you work with or serve young people in Mississauga, Brampton or Caledon? Are you a changemaker, systems leader or an agitator or a tender heart who urgently insists on more justice and equity for everyone – especially Indigenous and Black communities. We want to hear from you.

The inspiration for this conversation comes from the recognition that Black and Indigenous young people are often separated in non-profit programming/services which keeps these two groups separate – even though Indigenous and Black young people have a great deal in common. We believe that relationships and connections between Indigenous and Black young people can contribute to better and more equitable futures. We want Black and Indigenous young people to do more than survive – we want them to flourish and lead the way to a more just future.

Who are we?

We, Hearts + Minds, have sought out the facilitation expertise of Evenings & Weekends consulting, to facilitate and guide this community conversation.

Hearts + Minds is a collaborative project between Indigenous and/or Black co-researchers, Volunteer MBC, Moyo Health and Community Services, and ResQ Youth.

We launched this community based research project in May 2023 to a large virtual audience. Now, we are eager to focus on non-profit organizations in Peel and to learn how Black and Indigenous young people are served and worked with by non-profits.

📢 Spread the word and invite your fellow change-makers.

We are pleased to offer our guests a light breakfast and warm lunch. Free parking will be provided to guest who register before October 22.
