Sheridan College’s Hearts + Minds research team recently published a report titled “Re-Imaging the Centre: Indigenous and Black Futures in Peel” and will be hosting a webinar on April 30th to share the report. They are als currently recruiting participants for our “Braiding Futures Project.” Below is more information on both the webinar and research participant recruitment:

1. Webinar:

Time: Apr 30, 2024, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EDT
Location: Online
Description:  The Hearts + Minds research team has released our summary report from a community conversation about Black and Indigenous youth we hosted in the Fall with those working in youth-serving community organizations. Everyone is invited to join a webinar on April 30 at 1:00, where we will provide an overview of the report and discuss findings. You can register at the link (here).

2. Recruiting Black and Indigenous Co-researchers for Participatory Action research
We are excited to recruit volunteer youth research participants for the Braiding Futures Project. This participatory action research project is an 8-week project for Black and Indigenous youth (aged 16-21) living or attending school in Peel with community involvement experience. By participating in this project, youth will learn more about the connections between Black and Indigenous Peoples through listening practices, conversation circles and reflection. Co-researchers will gain valuable skills in research, program design, concept mapping, and arts-informed research. Black and/or Indigenous youth participants will learn to work together, with the support of the research team in Hearts + Minds, to co-design meaningful community connections for Black and Indigenous young people.
