HERE’S HOW THE CREATORS DESCRIBE THIS VIDEO:
As a young teen, Jamil Jivani would never have imagined himself as a graduate of Yale Law School or articling with Torys LLP. As a teen, he struggled in school and was frequently stopped by police and security guards because of his ethnic profile. Police profiling, particularly as it was related to Black youth, led to him founding the Policing Literacy Initiative. His five14 talk is titled Optimism When Confronting Inequality.
Five14 Talks started in response to requests from young people in care to have a greater voice in shaping public perceptions. The Children’s Aid Foundation created five14 Talks to celebrate Children and Youth in Care Day (May 14, 2015) to give young people in child welfare a voice and and inspire change. five14 Talks is a forum much like TED Talks, where Canada and the world’s leading thinkers in Child Welfare are invited to give a talk in 14 minutes.
