This toolkit was developed by the Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions (formerly the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health).

HERE’S HOW THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE THIS TOOLKIT:

A qualitative interview is a one-on-one, guided conversation used to gather in-depth information about someone’s feelings, thoughts and experiences related to a specific subject. It can be structured, semistructured or unstructured in nature and provides in-depth information from selected individuals.

This mini-toolkit provides an overview of qualitative interviews as a data collection method, strengths and limitations, and supports for developing an interview guide and for analyzing data.
